Holiday events throughout Concord in
all 3 village centers, online and beyond at
participating Indie Businesses:

  • December 13: The First Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party with Historic Re-enactors. 11-11:45 am. Street theatre starting in front of the Visitor's Center, Main St, Concord.

The Boston Tea Party comes to life in 1774 on the 1st anniversary of this historic event, recreated with fiery debate & song by historic re-enactors! Download details here!

The Boston Tea Party tells the classic tale of unfair trade advantages & government subsidies heaped on monopolies at the expense of independent business owners - and their now famous resistance to it!

  • November 22-December 24: Win a $200 Concord Indie Shopping Spree by doing business with Concord Indies (retail and non-retail) during this time period. (details here; entry form here)

ARE YOU A CONCORD INDIE?  Want to join in and be a part of all these events? (see Indie criteria below)

  • What is an Independent Business Alliance?

An independent business alliance is a coalition of locally-owned independent businesses, citizens and community organizations united to support home town businesses in a community or geographic region. Such alliances are a proven tool for helping maintain unique community character, ensuring continued opportunities for entrepreneurs, building local economic strength, and preventing the displacement of locally-owned businesses by chains. An independent business alliance helps return decision-making ability over a community's future to the people who call it "home."

    What is an Independent Business?

The Concord Indies have adopted AMIBA's definition of a local independent business as being one that meets all four of the following criteria:

  • Private, employee, community or cooperative ownership
  • Owned in majority by area resident(s)
  • Full decision-making function for the business lies with its owner(s)*
  • No more than 6 locations, all of which are within a single state.

*A litmus test: Can the owner of the business in a particular locale decide to change the appearance of the shop? the signage? the merchandise? the logos? operations?, etc. -- or are these standardized?
